Epiphany at the movies egroup

Everyone loves a good story. And, with summer’s hottest movie releases, people can’t help but talk about the latest film. In this six-week e-group series, we’ll look at a movie and talk about how it connects the ultimate story—God’s story of redemption for us. Join us on Wednesdays June 14 - July 19 for popcorn, hot dogs, snacks, and a good time. Kids are welcomed.

Did you know we’re living in God’s story right now? We’re characters in the ultimate story of redemption. Surprisingly, nearly all of our favorite films follow a similar story structure:

  1. First, there’s the Introduction. Here, the scene is set. Characters are introduced and the conflict becomes clear.

  2. Next is the Rising Action. At this point, the conflict and tension continue to build.

  3. During the Climax, the tension hits a breaking point and the “moment of truth” comes.

  4. Afterwards is the Falling Action, where loose ends are tidied up.

  5. Finally, there’s the Resolution. This is where the story ends.

This story structure reflects a deeper story embedded in the universe by God. Throughout scripture, we see God’s plan of redemption unfold across time. The death and resurrection of Jesus changed the fabric of our entire universe. It can be seen as the Climax of history. Christians now live in the Falling Action section of God’s great story. The Climax has ensured our victory and the Resolution (eternal life) is our future hope.

This six-week e-group series discusses what it’s like to live in the “in-between.” How do we prepare for the resolution to God’s great story? How do we live out the resurrection of Jesus today? As the Bible makes clear, God’s work in the world brings us into right relationship with him and empowers us to live out that redemption to others.

Each message in this “At The Movies” series comes with a biblical text and a description to illustrate some of the issues discussed in that passage. Not only will this series be an exciting change of pace, it will also help your group better understand and apply the teachings of Scripture.
