New Year’s Eve Watch Night Service

  • Epiphany Church Wilmington, Inc. 301 N. Union Street Wilmington, DE 19805 United States (map)

Rooted in History. Ready for What’s Next.

Watch Night has deep roots in the Black Church tradition. On New Year’s Eve in 1862—known as “Freedom’s Eve”—enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches to pray and wait for the Emancipation Proclamation to take effect at midnight. It was a night of anticipation, liberation, and faith in God’s promises.

At Epiphany, we carry that same spirit into every New Year’s Eve—watching, waiting, and worshiping with hearts full of defiant joy. As we close one year and step into the next, we look back with gratitude and look forward with hope, believing that God is still transforming Wilmington one life and one home at a time.

What to Expect

  • Worship : An evening of praise, reflection, and a short message from Pastor Derrick.

  • Testimonies : If you were here last year, you know this was the best part. We laughed, cried and worshippped as people told stories of what God has done and prayers for what’s ahead.

  • Midnight Moment: We’ll welcome 2026 together—with worship, community, and prayer.
